The Wise Words of Solomon.

Thursday 5th of August, 2010

Today’s “Pearl of wisdom” is from Proverbs Chapter 5 verses 1-2.

“Dear friend, pay close attention to this, my wisdom; listen very closely to the way I see it. Then you’ll acquire a taste for good sense; what I tell you will keep you out of trouble.” (The Message)

A wise man named Solomon lived a few thousand years ago and was the King of Israel. There was a time in his life when God asked Solomon what he would like. Solomon could have asked for more money, power, influence, anything really! Instead, he asked for wisdom and his life was marked by this attribute. Of course he didn’t always do things right and Proverbs Chapter 5 is evidence of this. The whole chapter is about marriage and being faithful to your spouse. Who better than Solomon should have written this chapter? This is the man who asked God for wisdom and was given it. Meanwhile, this same man learnt the hard way that being unfaithful in marriage results in destruction.

I know this is not always an easy topic to talk about, in fact, nowadays the topic of sex only within marriage is countercultural! Yet here we are encouraged to listen closely to the words of Solomon, a man who God gave great wisdom. And the lesson? Be faithful.
