The ant is small but wise.

Friday 6th of August, 2010

Today’s “Pearl of wisdom” is from Proverbs Chapter 6 verses 6-8.

“Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise!  Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work,  they labour hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.” (NLT)

Did you know that an ant can carry on its back something that is three times its weight? Imagine us doing that! That would mean if you were 60kg you would be carrying 180kg!!!! Ants are such small creatures yet they are amazing!! They are extremely hard workers and set an example to us of how to go about our work, be it school, chores or the tasks of daily life. An ant knows that there are different seasons and in the season of harvesting (ie. Summer!), they are busy working and collecting food for the harsh winter months.

Similarly, there are many different seasons in our lives and Proverbs often refers to the trait of being hard-working as an attribute of wisdom. In our quick-fix world, this is not always the most popular thing to do! Take a moment to pause and think about your week. What has your approach to work been like? School? Job? Housework? Having wisdom involves working hard in the tasks of daily life so be encouraged, focus and put your hands and mind to work in what is in front of you.
