It’s wise to work hard while you can.

Today’s thoughts are from Proverbs 10:4&5- Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich. A wise youth works hard all summer; a youth who sleeps away the hour of opportunity brings shame.

These are very strong and confronting statements! These verses talk about two groups of people. Firstly, lazy people- people who don’t make the most of opportunities when they come their way and who do not realise that time is precious until it is too late. Secondly, hard working people- people who give their best, do more than the minimum and don’t waste any opportunity to make a difference.

I think it’s pretty clear which group a Girl of Wisdom belongs to. A wise girl or woman chooses to work hard and to give her best to whatever is in her life- studies at school or university, part-time or full-time jobs, building healthy realtionships with others and making a difference in her world. And these verses say that if you work hard, you will be “rich.” This may mean finanically wealthy, but also rich in having great friendships, a confident self-esteem and a hope for the future.

But remember, time is short. It’s wise to work hard while you can.

TODAY’S QUESTION: How do you make the most of a day? Please comment!
