Breathe in… Breathe out…

Thursday, 12 August 2010.

I think we all have days where people and situations get on our nerves. One thing after another goes wrong, someone says something that annoys us, we forget to do something that really needed to be done, we get into an argument with a friend / parent / boyfriend / husband / teacher / sibling etc. and then… BANG! We crack it…. sound familiar? 🙂

Well today’s thoughts come from Proverbs 12:16 (NLT)– A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted. The Message Version says it like this– Fools have short fuses and explode all too quickly; the prudent quietly shrug off insults.

It’s amazing how much words can affect us. A kind word from someone can make our day; a cruel word from someone can crush our heart in seconds and cause us to retaliate in hurt and anger.

But a Girl of Wisdom seeks to control her temper. She may snap from time to time (we’re only human!!), but she realises that losing her temper will only make things worse. When you choose to remain calm and respond gently, it’s amazing how it disarms the other person or changes the atmosphere of a circumstance.

So the next time someone says something that hurts you or something happens that frustrates you, remember today’s verse-

Breathe in…. Breathe out… !
