Be kind to the poor.

Thursday, August 19 2010.

I’ll always remember the day I met my sponsor child. Her name is Gloriose and she lives with her grandmother and sister in a village in Rwanda close to the border of the Congo. Gloriose is like any other girl in the world. She loves to run, play, laugh and be with her friends, however, the conditions in which she lives are far below what we experience here in Australia. Food is mainly rice and water needs to be fetched from a water pump a long walk from her home.

Proverbs 19:17 says, “Mercy to the needy is a loan to God, and God pays back those loans in full (The Message).” The NLT puts it like this, “If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord – and He will repay you!”

This leads to the question, what are you doing to help people in need? This help may be local in your community, within your nation or around the world. There are so many ways to help the poor – financial, giving of your time, building relationships, to name a few.

A Girl of Wisdom loves to help the poor. Her motivation for doing this is pure and comes out of a heart of compassion for others around her. So be encouraged! Over the next week, why not take some time to think about what else you can do to help those in need.
