The Sorrows and Joys of Allowing Others In…

Friday 27th August.

Females think about so many things… and all at once! We are often more deeply in touch with our emotions compared to males and are naturally more relational… we love to have deep and meaningful conversations (D&Ms!) and receive strength and comfort through sharing our thoughts and feelings with our girlfriends.

Proverbs 27:9 says The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume. This verse reflects the joys of having heart to heart conversations with close friends. Indeed, there have been many times in my own life where I have felt overwhelmed by circumstances and emotions. I have been so blessed to have people in my world who I can trustingly allow into my heart and in doing so, receive encouragement, support and advice.

However, allowing others in can also cause sorrow. If we are not wise about who we share personal things with, it can actually cause more problems than solutions. I’m sure many of you can remember times where you poured out your heart to a friend, only to find that she betrayed your confidence or used your words against you.

When a Girl of Wisdom needs to unburden her precious heart, she firstly goes to the One who created her heart… her God, her Lord, her Saviour. God can be perfectly trusted with your thoughts and emotions- He knows you better than you know yourself after all! She then wisely chooses the people who she can trust- she doesn’t tell the whole world her problems!

Learning who you can and can’t trust is a journey. You will make mistakes along the way, but I believe that if you ask God to bring girlfriends into your life who are trustworthy, He will. But a Girl of Wisdom also makes sure that she herself is trustworthy too!

I pray these thoughts cause you to think more about who you trust- this will determine whether you experience the sorrow or joy of allowing others in!
