She smiles at the future.

Tuesday, 31 August 2010.

Proverbs 31 is one of my favourite chapters in the Book of Proverbs. In the second half of this chapter, there are various descriptions of “the virtuous woman” which, in this blog we call a “Girl of Wisdom.” These descriptions have served as a guideline for women over many centuries on the character traits of a godly woman. In today’s blog, we’re going to look at one verse which is found in Proverbs 31:25 (NLT). It says, “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”

Clothing is something that you wear and it’s something that people see on the outside of you. Here, a Girl of Wisdom is described as wearing strength and dignity. The strength described here means boldness and might. It infers that this kind of girl provides security in strength for those around her. She is dignified, having a positive influence in the social spheres within her hands.

When looking at the future, a Girl of Wisdom is not afraid. She knows that her future is in God’s hands and that He has her best interests at heart. Therefore, whatever shall come her way, she is able to hold steadfast to the promise that God is with her. In this, she can securely smile and be at peace in God.

So what are you clothed with? Are you able to smile at the future? Today, I encourage you to pray and ask God to grow strength and dignity within you so that when people look at you, they see the hallmarks of a virtuous woman. Furthermore, ask God to help enable you to give any worries or anxieties about the future to Him. Endeavour to grow your trust in God and remember, there is much to smile about!

What a perfect thought for today. Thank you, as a risk taker and faith adventurer I often try to plan for the worst case scenario! Last night,we committed to smile at the future, exactly as you’ve said, knowing God is already there and had made provision for whatever comes our way.
Like it says in Matt 6: 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own
