Listen to wisdom.

Wednesday, 1 September 2010.

As a child, many of my family holidays were spent bushwalking in some of the most remote places in Victoria. We would rarely see other hikers along the track and there were often warning signs that said, “Beware! Conditions can turn hazardous without warning, often resulting in blizzards.” Let’s just say that we were always very prepared for hiking! This included my parents giving both my brother and I a whistle to wear around our necks, just in case we ever got lost. The idea was that we could blow on the whistle, be heard for miles around, and thus be rescued.

Wisdom also has a sound, a voice that can be heard by all who will listen. Proverbs 1:20-21 (MSG) says, “Lady Wisdom goes out in the street and shouts. At the town centre she makes her speech. In the middle of the traffic she takes her stand. At the busiest corner she calls out!”

There are many things that wisdom calls out to us. The Bible, including the Book of Proverbs, is infused with great wisdom… the wisdom that comes from God. The sound of wisdom is clear and rings true. Anyone who will listen can hear wisdom. Although there may be many other voices in life, such as you experience when in a town centre, the voice of wisdom is unique, pure and true.

A Girl of Wisdom learns to listen to wisdom. Amongst the busyness of life, she is able to discern wisdom’s voice. Today, I encourage you to ask God for wisdom. Ask Him to help you hear His voice throughout each day. As you do this, you will grow in your understanding of who He is and also your ability to recognise godly wisdom.
