Money, Money, Money!!!

“Money, Money, Money. Must be funny. In a rich man’s world….I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills I have to pay. Ain’t it sad. And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me….” – Lyrics from “Money, Money, Money” by ABBA.

The Western World’s view of money is often self-centred. It’s all about me, all about paying my bills, getting the latest and greatest and at the end of the day, not having a whole lot of money left in the bank account for anyone but you.

God’s view of finances is very different. Proverbs 3:9 (NLT) says, “Honour the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce.”

When it comes to finances, God asks us to give the first part of it to him. We call this tithing – giving 10% of your income to God. This is given through the local church that you attend.

While tithing is important, the central issue in this proverb is honouring God with what you have. A Girl of Wisdom understands that everything she possesses has been given to her by God. She is not controlled by money nor the desire for money. This girl honours God with what she has, spends money wisely and uses her finances to bless others, especially the poor and those in need.

There’s another verse in the Bible that says, “Where your money is, there your heart will also be.” Take a moment and think about this area in your life and ask God to show you where your heart is when it comes to money.
