How to accept advice.

Friday 15 September 2010.

Everyone loves to give advice and to share their thoughts and opinions with others, yet accepting advice is not always as easy! Proverbs 13:10 says, “Wisdom is found in those who take advice (NIV).”

Here are a few thoughts on accepting advice:

1. Weigh it up!  Think about what the person has advised and ask yourself questions such as, “Is this good advice?” and “Does this advice align with God’s word?”

2. Say thank you!  Someone has taken time to share their thoughts with you so thank them for this, even if you decide the advice is not for you.

3. Apply it!  If it’s good advice, go and start implementing it! This often means making some changes in your world, perhaps to your perspective, the way you communicate or various other areas of your life. Applying advice may mean making some tough decisions that are difficult in the short-term, however, are beneficial long-term.

A Girl of Wisdom is open to receiving advice and understands that this is essential to developing wisdom within her. So, the next time someone gives you advice…remember to weigh it up, say thank you and apply it!
