A Heart of Silver & Gold.

Thursday 18 November 2010

I love jewellery! Sometimes, when I am at the shops, I pop into a jewellery store and have a little look at the bracelets, earrings, rings and necklaces. Silver, gold, diamonds, emeralds, rubies… they all look so beautiful!

However, silver and gold looks nothing like what it does in the shop window when they’re first unearthed from the ground. They come out dirty, dull and with imperfections. These precious metals need to be put through intense heat to get rid of all the impurities in order to be turned into flawless pieces of jewellery.

Proverbs 17:3 (NLT) says, “Fire tests the purity of silver and gold; but the Lord tests the heart.”

In the same way that the flames of a fire remove the dirt and blemishes within precious metals, the heat of conflict, tragedy and pain tests our character and faith. In the midst of tough times, God shows us what needs to be removed on the inside of us in order to become more like the person He desires us to be.

Throughout my own life, today’s verse has proven true over and over and over again. Going through “fire” really hurts! But in the midst of the flames, I know that God never leaves us. He takes us by the hand and walks through the flames with us. And if we are willing, He will use even the worst of circumstances to help us become better than what we were before!

Seasons come and go. Nothing stays the same forever. Take courage beautiful girl and face the flames with confidence. A Girl of Wisdom allows God to work on her heart… as a jeweller works on silver and gold.
