How to resolve conflicts with friends.

Saturday 19 February 2011.

Ever had an argument or a disagreement with a friend? I think we all have at one time or another! Conflict is never easy, however, it does provide the opportunity to learn from one another and grow your friendship.

Proverbs 18:19 (NLT) says, “An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.”

It is important during these times to resolve conflict in a healthy way. Here are three thoughts on how to do this-

1. Have an open discussion. Sit down with your friend and talk honestly and openly about the conflict, your thougths and feelings. These conversations are defintely a two-way street, so be sure to listen to your friend’s thoughts and feelings too!

2. Say sorry! Admit and apologise for any offence you caused and ask your friend to forgive you.

3. Prevention strategies. Talk with your friend about how together you will handle similar situations in the future. Perhaps there is something you can both do to help resolve a potential conflict before it begins.

A Girl of Wisdom loves to build friendships and knows that part of this is learning how to resolve conflict in a healthy way.
