Is keeping the sabbath still important today?

Sunday 3rd July 2011

Do you ever find yourself exhausted by the race of life? Too tired to think straight? Or simply running round in circles never quite getting through everything on your to do list? I know I sure do at times!

There is a great principle in the bible called the Sabbath. It is the concept that one day per week is a day of rest. This one day is a day to be still, to stop working, to reflect and focus on God. Unfortunately, in our crazy world, we often skip the Sabbath. There’s always so much to do and not enough hours in the day to do it so it becomes very easy to work seven days out of seven.

There are many scriptures in the bible about rest and resting in God. One of my favourites is found in Psalm 91:1 (NLT) and it says, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

I encourage you to make keeping a Sabbath a regular habit. Regardless of how much you have on in your schedule, you really do benefit from taking a day to rejevunate yourself and spend more time with God.

A Girl of Wisdom works diligently throughout the week and knows that she needs a day of rest in order to help keep herself well and refreshed.
