Your face gives your heart away.

Monday 30th January 2012

Lately, I have been really aware of facial expressions. We say so much without even needing to say words… a smile, a laugh, a glare, a rolling of the eyes, a smirk, a frown, a blank look, a yawn of boredom… And even if you do use words, your facial expression can often be saying the opposite, revealing that you really don’t mean what you are saying!

Proverbs 27:19 (MSG) says, “Just as water mirrors your face, so your face mirrors your heart.”

When we look in a mirror or look into a still pool of water, we catch a glimpse of our own reflection. Seeing our reflection gives us an idea of what others see when they look at us. In the same way, our facial expressions reflect the state of our inner being and give people an idea of what our heart looks like!

By simply observing a person’s facial expressions when they interact with others, you can often tell if they are friendly, kind, bitter, cruel, positive or negative.

A Girl of Wisdom is aware of how her facial expressions can impact another person. Have a go this week at paying attention to your own facial expressions when with different people and in different situations. Consciously make a mental note of what message your facial expression is sending and ask yourself how this may be making another person feel.

Remember, your words may be saying one thing, but it’s your face that gives your heart away!
