How do you spend your days?

Thursday 10 May 2012

There’s always something that needs to be done. No matter how many items I tick off my to do list, still more items seem to appear. Life can certainly be a bit of a juggling act regardless of the season of life you’re in.

Proverbs 31:27 (NKJV) says, “She watches over the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

Idleness simply means to do nothing, to fill your hours with no activity, to avoid work and habitually not do anything. Now there are certainly times when you and I need rest, but the idle woman makes this more of a habit than the norm.

Different seasons of a woman’s life look different when it comes to the activities she fills her days with. You may be a student, living with or away from your parents, pursuing your career, volunteering or have some little ones you are raising. Perhaps you’re even doing a combination of these!

The following are some questions to reflect upon when thinking about how you spend your days:

1. How many hours a day do you spend watching TV, on facebook, twitter etc?

2. Do you spend time with God each day, reading His word and praying?

3. Do you leave yourself some space for rest?

4. Do you  prioritise? For example, there’s always dishes to be done but some days these may need to be left so you can focus on something more important such as time for your husband/partner/children or a friend in need.

5. Do you know that WHO you are is more important than WHAT you do?

A Girl of Wisdom makes the most of her day. She is aware of when she needs rest but also ensures that her day is filled with activities that fulfil her current season. She is careful not to be too distracted and doesn’t let procrastination come in the way of fulfilling her priorities.
